Hello Emily, tell us a little bit about what you get up to...
After working on Superyachts for the past 3 years, I am now setting up a wellness subscription company (MYPOW ltd) while studying to become a health coach. I have also recently taken part in a TV show that airs in September.
That sounds very exciting, can you tell us a bit more about the TV show or is it top secret?
Ha ha! I am allowed to speak about it now that the cast has been publicized. The TV show is a reality/documentary about life onboard a superyacht, which fitted into my career and thinking I should take the experience, YOLO, right? I took part in season 4 and it was great fun but very challenging; we were filmed 24/7 for 6 weeks, it will be bizarre to watch!
What was it like living on a superyacht? What were the main health and fitness challenges?
Living on a superyacht can be tough when it comes to health and fitness but you can be determined to not let the obstacles get in the way of living a healthy lifestyle. You're cooked for by an amazing chef every day and when guests are onboard you work up to 17 hour days which is extremely tiring. The crew quarters are small and you always share a cabin with another crew member so you have little to no real private time. I always started the day with my morning yoga routine, then I'd have my oats and make a green smoothie for everyone, with superfood supplements, and protein for the boys, as there's a lot of manual labour involved and our work was very strenuous for days on end.
I also tried to go for a run after work every day if guests weren't on board, and if they were I would do an insanity workout on my break, moving furniture around in my cabin for space. It can be difficult but it's doable and you can always manipulate the food choices to eat what suits you.
Where did your health and fitness journey begin?
Mine started 3 years ago when I went on a mission to discover what feeling good about myself really was after suffering 5 + yrs of a toxic lifestyle that influenced my body and mind. I left home, tried living in a lovely flatshare in London before traveling to India and then going to work on the superyachts.
I learnt to eat and live in ways that made me feel fabulous, balanced and not guilty.
What has been your greatest health or fitness accomplishment?
Getting to the place I am now with myself, being happy with my body and mind.
What are your top health hacks?
What does your morning routine look like?
I'm naturally an early riser. I wake, swish coconut oil, have my lemon water, do 20 minutes of yoga and then I have my porridge loaded with yummy toppings or a smoothie bowl. Then I will get ready, walk the dogs or go on a run, depending on my schedule.
What does a perfect day look like to you?
Ideally it would be hot and sunny! I love meeting friends for a morning rooftop yoga or fitness class followed by a brunch somewhere and some exploring and shopping. I like to head back and spend some time with the doggies and family for supper before a night out - I love to dance!
Do you have a favourite go-to recipe?
My own stir fry with lots of ginger, tamari and rainbow veg with a protein of choice and brown rice; it's quick, easy and everyone always loves it.
What’s your favourite way of keeping in shape?
Running and yoga, they suit two purposes and I enjoy them both.
Do you have a favourite motivational quote you live by?
"Aim for the moon, even if you miss you'll land among the stars." - W.Clement Stone
If there was one thing you would like everyone to know or try, what would it be?
Fitness and nutrition really can be used as a medicine to combat health problems, of the mind and body and this should not be discounted, everyone deserves to feel and become the best person that they can be.
